Yes, that’s the way of Jazz I absolutely love! Catchy, repetitive grooving and also sometimes jumping on and over the edge to to classical music. Partly it comes even with a Balearic breath around. Shocking good album by piano player, composer and “world musician” Mathias Frey from Südhessen, Germany.
Also highly notable and for me at first surprisingly that this one is apparently a solo album. All tunes are composed by Mathias Frey and he had also played all both instruments. The crispy drums and a mechanical prepared Yamaha grand piano. No synthesizer, no computer manipulation and also no bass. Amazingly sound for a solo work with only two instruments.
Grand Piano
This great German Jazz music housed in a reduced but simply good designed record cover. A glossy black sleeve. The surface reminds of piano lacquer and also the minimalistic insert of Helvetica typeface in a kind of custom golden color looks like a manufacturer branding on a stage piano. Simply a perfect affair but also costly produced for a minor edition on the Frankfurt located RillenWerke label which ever had the mission to support small local acts to realize self-contained record releases.
