Manyaka

If you ask me today I would say MANYAKA (118 BPM) is my absolutely favorite tune. Incredible baselines, dope Synthesizer grooves, the decent operation of the „The Munich Strings“ and this catchy female chorus at the refrain. But this LP contains also NIMELE BOLO (121 BPM) and the 9:00 minutes long album version of BORN IN AFRICA (115 BPM). Altogether three DJ-friedndly tunes to recommend on a continuous great album.

Born In Africa

Outstanding European 70s Afro Funk and Disco classic, re-discovered decades ago by my mates from Hamburg. But until today this album is in Utrecht and other record fairs displayed on the walls, there where are the records with the bigger price tags to find.

Charly Kingson, from Cameroon and the cousin of Manu Dibango, has recorded this great album 1978 in Germany. STUDIO 70 and Union Studios, Munich … At this time perhaps the melting pot of the European Disco-movement. In the credits are listed many great musicians like Benny Bailey, Etienne Cap or Sal Nistico for example. Producer was Klaus Weiss and for sure he plays also Drums and Percussion. What maybe surprises a little bit is that he is also the dude that plays these cutting-edge sounding Clavinet and Synthesizer parts.

A great album, solid from start to finish. Perfect teamwork of soulful Afro Funk, European Jazz and dance floor oriented Disco.

– dig it! dig it! DIG IT!
